Understanding Fit Testing

Ensure your workers receive the highest level of protection with OHERM’s certified Fit Testing services. We provide on-site Respirator and Hearing Protector Fit Testing by Australian Standards, helping you maintain compliance and keep your workforce safe.

Why Fit Testing Matters?

When it comes to workplace safety, one size does not fit all — especially for personal protective equipment (PPE). Respirators and hearing protection are only as effective as their fit. If they don’t seal or sit properly, they can’t do their job — and that puts your team at real risk.

At OHERM, we understand that proper protection isn’t just about having the right gear — it’s about making sure it fits you. That’s why we offer certified fit testing services designed to take the guesswork out of safety.

Our testing complies with AS/NZS 1715:2009 and supports a fully compliant Respiratory Protection Program, giving you confidence that your team is both protected and regulation-ready. Whether you’re in mining, construction, healthcare, or manufacturing, we help ensure every worker gets the right fit — because when safety matters, compromise isn’t an option.

Let’s make sure protection means exactly that — real, reliable, and tailored to every individual on your team.

Preparation

Respirator Fit Testing

Respirators (masks) are worn by workers as a last line of defence against airborne health hazards such as particulates, gases, fumes, fungi, bacteria, and viruses.

The degree of protection offered by different types of respirators depends significantly on how well a specific make and model fits an individual worker. That’s why Respirator Fit Testing is conducted — typically on an annual basis — to ensure proper fit and maximum protection.

OHERM offers Quantitative Fit Testing suitable for most respirator brands. Testing is conducted onsite at your workplace by experienced consultants in accordance with Australian Standard AS/NZS 1715 – Selection, Use and Maintenance of Respiratory Protective Equipment. We provide testing for:

Hearing Protector Fit Testing

In high-noise environments, poorly fitted hearing protectors can result in permanent hearing loss. We help you meet compliance and protect your team’s long-term hearing

Hearing protectors are also a last line of defence, used to shield workers from hazardous occupational noise.

Like respirators, the protection provided by earplugs or hearing protection devices depends on how well the device fits the worker. Hearing Protector Fit Testing ensures the selected model achieves the intended noise reduction and protective seal when properly worn.

OHERM offers onsite Fit Testing services for most major earplug brands. Testing is performed by experienced consultants, who also provide basic hearing protection awareness and training for workers undergoing testing. This supports better fit outcomes and improved PPE compliance.
